When you buy your first SLR camera you can almost be guaranteed that one item will be missing. The box your SLR camera usually will have the camera body, a single lens, if you are lucky it includes a rechargeable battery for your camera, and most likely it includes either a wrist strap or a neck strap for your camera. So what is missing? Security, comfort, and the confidence found in using a SRL camera harness is the missing element.
Why Would A Camera Harness Be So Important?
How much did you invest in your new SLR camera? You most likely spent in excess of $500 for your SLR camera and the price can leap into the thousands of dollars for top of the line cameras. When you start adding high-end lenses into the equation it is very common to have an investment over $1000. A wrist strap would be ridiculous for this level of equipment. A neck strap is only minimally better aside from the fact that it will make you feel comfortable while you are doing your stint and moving from one place to the other.
Consider how a neck strap works. It allows your camera to swing in all directions freely as you move. It leaves a high potential for the camera to be damaged in an accident. It makes you feel comfortable that your camera is safe and there are no chances that you will drop them.
The SLR camera harness fits your body very differently. It goes over your shoulders, wraps around your back, and fastens the camera centered on your body. The camera does not move around freely. The camera is secure without using your hands. You can jog, bend, and even climb a ladder and the camera remains safe.
The Confusing Omission
Camera manufacturers are well aware of these facts. Many of them even manufacture their own variety of camera body harness. When you realize high-end after market camera harnesses with a lifetime warranty can be purchased for around $20 it becomes really confusing why they are not included in the bundle.
Before you start going out on hikes and other big photography events buy a SLR camera harness to use with your new camera. There is no reason to risk your camera with the cheap neck strap included in the bundle. Get the protection which should have been in the package in the first place.
