In astrology there are so very many valuable "tools" or techniques with which the astrologer can employ for a chart delineation. There are transits, and progressions, such as primary directions; secondary directions; tertiary Moon; Solar and Lunar return progressions to name a few. Trying to select or choose one of these tools however, can be overwhelming and complex, even for the most experienced astrologer. I try to use the ones that get to the heart of the situation as expeditiously as possible; get in and out as quickly, and simply as possible, with all the information that I originally came for.

Over the years I have spoken with many astrologers, each and every one of them having their own specific and favorite tool(s) they use to extricate the information they felt was the most advantageous for their clients. There was one particular astrologer I knew that only used transits to summarize what potentially lay in store for her clients, which I felt, and still feel is tremendously limiting, but to each their own.

I have found that Midpoints are enormously rewarding for what it is I wish to achieve. The use of midpointsis not a new concept, and has been in active use since before the 16th century. Now, for those of you that are not familiar with astrology or midpoints, midpoint is a term that refers to the middle space between any two points (you think?). Most astrologers or mathematicians refer to midpoints as combinations, or halfsum as a general term. These terms can, and are used interchangeably when discussing the distance between two planets, angles, or theoretical points such as an ecliptic (the apparent paths of the Sun and Moon's orbit intersections).

As with any point or part of the astrological chart, it is in constant flux and ever changing. If you think of the astrological wheel as a living organism (which it is), then you will understand that the planets in your birth chart are now in different positions than from the time you were born. With only ten planets in the astrological chart (some of which move at an excruciatingly slow pace), the possibilities for the activation of any original positions in the birth chart are limited when compared to a midpoint sort. Please keep in mind that there is a mid distance for everything in your chart; planets, angles, Arabic Points, asteroids, etc.

I can't possibly detail how this all works in a short blog, but I encourage you to investigate and research this application of the midpoint system and how your chart, and its sensitive points are activated daily. I recommend using the 90° midpoint sort along with two books for those that wish to pursue midpoints. I have read only one of the two, and was recommended the second by a reputable colleague. Please remember that it will take you some time to adjust to this technique, but if you stay with it you just might find a method to this madness.
