OK, I'll admit to it right now- I've been assigned the task of finding out all I can about the Pokemon phenomena and while I'm having a great time, I find my imagination churning faster than I can find the answers for.
So in this article I decided to throw my theories out there and in a later article refute or confirm them. Initially, scientists wanted to do RNA experiments that would modify a creature's receptivity to further and noticeable DNA modification. They decided upon using mammals, oddly enough, first seals. Because seals are aquatic, they would be good conductors of electricity and in the second generation would be able to 'catch' fish remotely by aiming electric charges at it. However, they wanted to be sure the gene was recessive and that it would be bred out after two generations.
Two odd things occurred though. While the breeding was successful (the original seals went on to evolve into terrestrial animals), the DNA was dominant, not recessive. Scientists failed and not only that, but were stuck with the ethical dilemma of whether they should destroy the creatures or not. They voted against it, but found eventually that they could not control 'spontaneous evolutionary feature' that gave birth to the Pokemon. The big worry in regards to Pokemon is their escape and possible out-evolving the existing life forms on earth.
The other very odd characteristic of a Pokemon is its ability to return to its capsule, or ball. Because of the DNA modifications made to the original Pokemon, they also had to be modified to be grown in a capsule rather than an egg or a womb. DNA modification was required for that also, in a process known as 'molecular expansive capacity.' Actually, a Pokemon's real size is its size in a ball, not its expanded size. When a Pokemon expands, the space in all of molecular particles expands.
Today, Pokemon are very secretive and no one knows how they are replicating, though it is spontaneous. Their mortality is also a mystery. New Pokemon are being found all the time and unlike wild animals, they can be tamed. This is encouraged. Why they are encouraged to fight in tournaments by amateurs (non-scientists) is a government secret.
Well, maybe I didn't add anything about the Pokemon world but that is my parallel Pokemon world. I do know what's hot right now in Pokemon shops (I know because it's all my son ever talks about!): anything Pokemon black and white, Pokemon Plush Toys (or 'plushies'), Pokemon figures, and of course the cards! Hot Pokemon cards include the Promos, holofoil cards, legendary Pokemon, and shiny suicune.
