Medical and Health Professions: Medical Assistant, EMTs, and Paramedics
Medical and health professions offer a wealth of unique job opportunities. Some career fields, for example, include: nursing, paramedics, veterinary science, and medical and dental assistance. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, health care will grow by 32.4 percent and add 4.4 million new jobs by the year 2014.
Medical assistants are projected to be the fastest growing occupation. Those who are dependable, and have a desire to help others may enjoy working in health care. Medical assistants are often physical therapist assistants, pharmacy technicians, veterinary technicians, and many more.
Another field with rapidly growing employment opportunities is emergency medical technician and paramedic work. EMTs and paramedics can perform vital prehospital medical procedures in order to save lives. Also, those working in emergency medical services who are part of police and fire departments receive the same benefits as the firefighters and police officers. Employment in this field is expected to grow faster than average through 2012.
Educational requirements vary from one position to another, but can range from on-the-job training to years of college and medical school. EMTs, for instance, must be certified before entering the field. One should research specific job requirements before setting long-term professional goals.
